"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2012 Grange sports an earthy/meaty nose with notes of tree bark, dusty earth, underbrush and chargrill over a core of dried mulberries and Christmas cake, plus hints of pepper and baking spices. Rich, medium to full-bodied and seductive, it has spicy layers and a long meaty/savory finish."

Inspired by 2012 Grange, Penfolds has worked in partnership with Saint-Louis, the oldest glassmaker in Europe and one of the most prestigious crystal houses in the world, to create a distinctive objet d'art service vessel. Each decanter comes with a special box and a bottle of 2012 Grange.

99 Points, The Wine Advocate  -  2012 Penfolds Grange Shiraz
Very deep purple black in color, it opens on the nose with complex earthy/meaty/savory notes, soon giving way to baked blackberries, plum preserves, hoisin and Chinese five spice with dabs of sandalwood, licorice, menthol and vanilla. The palate reveals a surprisingly open, rich, full-bodied expression exuding a powerhouse of velvet-lined decadence.

Still, it characteristically possesses that rock solid “Grange” backbone of firm tannins and great freshness expressed in a real lively lift to the finish. And the finish is epically long. There are some stylistic similarities here to the opulent, gregarious 2008 vintage, perhaps just lacking ever so slightly in the same exhilarating abandonment of winemaking protocols for the celebration of the fruit and sites. That said, this is unquestionably a stonking great Grange!”

"At this youthful stage, this deep garnet-purple colored wine puts forward a vivid expression of blackberry preserve aromas amid underlying cassis, black cherry, spice box, char-grilled meat and chocolate box notes. Surprisingly medium to full-bodied (it smells much fuller!) with taut flavors that are very closed in the mouth, it has firm, chewy tannins to structure through the long and earthy finish." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

“Pale tawny-brown in color and exuding an incredibly complex nose of walnuts, gingerbread, Manuka honey, treacle / molasses, plus tons of earth notes that show nuances of bark, loam and fungi and later-emerging wafts of exotic incense and spice notes of sandalwood, cloves and spice cake, the Penfolds Series Two 50 Year Old Port is a very big, rich and intense Port-style wine with a wonderful array of aromas and flavors, a crisp line of acid and an epically long finish.”

The 50 Year Old Rare Tawny is a symbol of Penfolds heritage, typifying collaboration and shared creative expression.

Amongst the many individual components captured in this wine is the 1915 vintage, reported to be the foundation of the first Grandfather cask. Additionally, the 1940, 1945 vintages, the first two commercial releases of the Grandfather (in 1965 and 1969 respectively) and the first Great Grandfather release (1994). Incorporating the 1915 vintage component from Penfolds precious glass stock reserves means the Penfold 50 Year Old Rare Tawny carries a generic connection to the earliest recorded vintage of Penfolds Grandfather Tawny.

Bin 389 was often referred to as ‘Baby Grange’, in part because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange. First made in 1960, by the legendary Max Schubert, this is the wine that helped to forge Penfolds solid reputation with red wine drinkers combining the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the richness of Shiraz. Bin 389 also exemplifies the judicious balance of fruit and oak.

Tasting Notes:
Red-currant and savory black olive notes followed by a generous mid-palate embalmed by integrated plush and slurry ripe tannins and notes of crème de cassis and blueberry fruits.

"The 2015 Shiraz Kalimna Bin 28 has nose of crushed black currants and blueberries with subtle notes of licorice, tar, roses and tapenade. Medium to full-bodied, opulent and densely packed with black fruits and savory layers, it has a solid frame of rounded tannins and wonderful freshness, finishing long."  - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Created in the 1990s as part of the evolving Penfolds white wine development program, Bin 51 captures many of the attributes of the Eden Valley locale. The region’s high altitude and cool climate induces riesling with great finesse and elegance with a capacity for long-term cellaring. South Australia has gained worldwide recognition for producing definitive world-class riesling and Eden Valley always features. In their youth, the wines possess scented floral and citrus aromas, with a mineral edge and marked natural acidity, contributing significantly to the palate texture and flavour. The evolution of Penfolds Bin 51 Eden Valley Riesling opens another chapter in a long history of Penfolds involvement in winemaking from this variety.
