Bin 389 was often referred to as ‘Baby Grange’, in part because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange. First made in 1960, by the legendary Max Schubert, this is the wine that helped to forge Penfolds solid reputation with red wine drinkers combining the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the richness of Shiraz. Bin 389 also exemplifies the judicious balance of fruit and oak.

93 Points, The Wine Advocate
"Blended of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Shiraz and sporting a deep garnet-purple color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz Bin 389 South Australia has a bombastic nose of crushed blueberries and black currants with hints of vanilla pod, dried Provence herbs, lavender and cigar boxes." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

"It's dark and stolid, with notes of cassis and blackberry along with touches of vanilla and cedar. Full-bodied and dense, it's firmly in the Penfolds style and the style of this particular bottling, which always ages well."

The three pack consists of one bottle each of the 2012, 2013, and the 2014 Grange

The original and most powerful expression of Penfolds multi-vineyard, multi-district blending philosophy, Grange is arguably Australia’s most celebrated wine and is officially listed as a Heritage Icon of South Australia. Crafted utilising fully-ripe, intensely-flavoured and structured shiraz grapes, the result is a unique Australian style that is now recognised as one of the most consistent of the world’s great wines. With an unbroken line of vintages from the experimental 1951, Grange clearly demonstrates the synergy between shiraz and the soils and climates of South Australia.

2012 Penfolds Grange:
“Sometimes tasting notes such as these are difficult to articulate. Not this time. Channelling the 2010 Grange - an unfolding kaleidoscopic vinous mosaic of charm, allure, character and cerebral reward.” “Complete. Stylistically, most closely aligned to the 1963 Grange and yet stridently extolling its own personality.”“Can’t quite remember when or where… and probably not about a wine, but recently scribed: Luxury that treads lightly!”

- Peter Gago, Penfolds Chief Winemaker

2013 Penfolds Grange:
“Six decades after the release of OUR favourite Grange, the 60 year-old 1953 Grange, this 2013 flexes, prances, twitches, … pressure  is on! What’s the measure of this four and a half year old?” “2013 – Undoubtedly will soon be universally proclaimed to be a classic ‘Penfolds vintage’ … and indeed over time certified a classic ‘Grange vintage’!”“Not unlike the 2008 Grange – á la style / weight / disposition / cellarability.” “Sensorially supersaturated, verging on overwhelmingly generous. Beware - superlatives abound. No matter, despite the chatter, a seriously very good drink! Indulge without guilt.”

- Peter Gago, Penfolds Chief Winemaker

2014 Penfolds Grange:
“The spoils of terra rossa soils, latitude and limestone – a magical mix shared by both Coonawarra and Wrattonbully.” “Wrattonbully grapes appear in Grange for the first time – did any of these vineyards exist in Max Schubert’s days at Penfolds? We suspect not.”

- Peter Gago, Penfolds Chief Winemaker
